Mimmo Rotella, born Domenico Rotella, was an Italian artist of Calabrian origins and protagonist of the art of the second half of the 20th century, linked to the international Nouveau Réalisme and Pop Art movement.
We talk about Italian Pop Art. The artist became known because he was able to transform a tear from a poster into art.
He immediately became famous for dècollage, a technique he experimented with for the first time after his return to Italy when, while walking in Rome, he saw torn posters, took them to his studio and worked on them.
In 1953 Rotella understood that painting was no longer of great interest to him and clearly approached the concept of advertising poster conceived as artistic expression.
Rotella thus becomes part of the Nouveau Réalisme.
