“Le Signe, l’âme” | Henri Matisse 1951
The sign, the soul
“The drawings that Matisse made in the mid-1930s were what the artist considered his greatest achievements. These drawings represent reclining women against backgrounds adorned with patterned fabrics and are miracles of pre lines that best encompass the sphere of sensuality In the representation of mirrors and reflections, the master seems to enclose the very soul of his models in fine and virtuous lineaments”.
Henri Matisse, in agreement with the publisher Zervos, granted the right to reproduce these lithographic sketches in a maximum of 499 copies.
